Within this blog, Dr. Bourg explores topics such as higher education, research libraries, social justice issues, as well as publishing. As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, this blog is about academic writing in all disciplines. The creator of the blog is Kim M.Mitchell RN MN Ph.D. While her main discipline is nursing, this blog’s intended audience is post-secondary instructors, academic writers, students, or researchers. The discussion topics featured on the blog tend to be research-based information, anecdotes, and opinions. If this is something that interests you, it is definitely worth looking into!
If you are someone who loves all things science, then this is the blog for you! Paige Brown Jarreau, a Science Communications Specialist for the College of Science at Louisiana State University, began this blog in 2011. Her passion lies in science and communication and thus this blog serves to talk about a wide variety of science-related topics. The Mad Scientist Confectioner’s Club
Like the last suggested blog, this blog is centered around science. Dr. Jason McDermott runs this blog and is also a Senior Research Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. What is unique about the Mad Scientist Confectioner’s Club is that Dr. McDermott is also the creator of a research-based comic series on Twitter known as RedPen/BlackPen. In each of the blogs featured, he includes a doodle as well which makes the experience even more enjoyable. If you are looking for a little bit of comedy in your academic work, then this is the place for you.
The last Academic Blog we suggest is for all of our lady scientists out there. WebMZ is run by Maryam Zaringhalam Ph.D. who is a D.C based biologist, science writer, and AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow. In her blog, Maryam discusses women in science, alternative career options in academics, equality in science, along with other fascinating topics. This blog is particularly interesting because of the introspective takes on the science field and education. One of my personal favorites from this blog is the post about “Why we need to keep talking about Equality in Physics”. Each post is worth the read.
